Tangled Up in Blue — Bob Dylan Center Campaign Photography, Tulsa

Client: Bob Dylan Center | Campaign: Tangled Up in Blue | Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma

Building a Visual Identity for a Museum Opening Around an Icon

When the Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa needed photography to anchor its Tangled Up in Blue launch campaign, CreeseWorks produced a lifestyle-focused visual narrative designed to weave Dylan's legacy into modern cultural context. The images were deployed across the museum opening, institutional branding, gallery display, and local outreach materials, and were praised by the Bob Dylan Center for capturing the essence of cultural heritage.

Campaign Photography That Bridges an Icon and a New Audience

The assignment called for images that felt both timeless and current, that could speak to lifelong Dylan devotees and first-time museum visitors in the same frame. This required working across museum gallery spaces, city streets, and contextual portraits while maintaining a cohesive visual language. The campaign needed to communicate the museum's identity to national audiences while feeling rooted in the specific character of Tulsa.

Shooting Around a Legend Without Recreating His Clichés

Bob Dylan is one of the most mythologized figures in American cultural history. Every visual reference to his legacy carries the weight of fifty years of iconography. Building a campaign that honored that legacy without defaulting to its most familiar symbols, and that could represent a physical museum in Tulsa, not an abstract cultural idea, required a fresh visual language. Creese worked with prime lenses and natural light, using moody color palettes, architectural texture, and visitor interaction to build something grounded rather than reverential.

Dylan's Archives in Tulsa and a Campus Connecting American Music

The Bob Dylan Center opened in Tulsa in May 2022, part of a broader effort to position the city as a destination for American music and cultural history. It shares a campus with the Woody Guthrie Center. Tulsa became home to Dylan's personal archives in 2016, drawing scholars and fans from around the world. For CreeseWorks, the campaign was a natural continuation of years of commercial and cultural work in Tulsa — bringing the same editorial sensibility that had served NPR, NBC News, and Bloomberg to a branding context.
